A GROUNDSWELL OF GENEROSITY
The Sainte-Justine Youth Tree of Lights
From November 1 to 26, 2023
This November, the Sainte-Justine Youth Tree of Lights campaign is back for a fourth year—and it’s more ambitious than ever! Building on the extraordinary momentum of the first three annual editions, the Sainte-Justine Youth Tree of Lights is an opportunity for private schools across Quebec to shine the spotlight on their commitment to Sainte Justine, its patients, and its medical staff.
Private school students will help illuminate the base of the Sainte Justine Tree of Lights by asking friends and family to donate $5 per bulb. Their efforts will kick off this flagship holiday fundraising campaign, and the total amount raised will be dramatically unveiled at the tree-lighting ceremony. Students who raise more than $250 will be entered into a draw to win 2 plane tickets donated by the Air Canada Foundation!
Because there’s nothing more powerful than young people coming together to help their peers.
AMBASSADORS
The faces of the Youth Tree of Lights
Anne-Marie
Finding light after the darkness of a coma
Collège Villa Maria
It was a beautiful summer day, perfect for being on the water, when Anne-Marie’s boat unexpectedly hit a power line. Surrounded by her loved ones and the second family she found at Sainte-Justine, Anne-Marie began a journey marked by resilience.
Elizabeth
A courageous return to the Sainte-Justine community
Collège Saint-Paul
In December 2021, Elizabeth found herself back at Sainte-Justine, 12 years after a mass was found in her brain. Armed with inner strength and surrounded by the neurosurgery unit’s expert care team, Elizabeth triumphed over her ordeal. Today, she hopes to rally her peers in support of the hospital that saved her life.
Ethan
The constant threat of severe food allergies
The Priory School
Ethan was born with over 30 severe food allergies, but thanks to Sainte-Justine’s expertise, he is now able to eat certain allergens without risk. The desensitization treatments he received at CHU Sainte-Justine’s oral immunotherapy clinic have played a crucial role in his daily life and activities. These treatments would not have been possible without the community that worked to create the clinic.
Romeo
Born under a lucky star
École Vision St-Jean
After tests revealed that Romeo’s brain was malformed and that he was profoundly deaf, it was feared that he would face major day-to-day challenges. Things turned out a little differently. Today, Romeo dances, plays an instrument, is learning several languages in school, and much more! His condition, Chudley–McCullough syndrome, has been diagnosed in a mere 40 or so patients worldwide. But Romeo was born under a lucky star: Sainte-Justine.
Victoria
Weathering every storm, thanks to Sainte-Justine unique expertise
Vanguard School
Victoria was born with a severe immune deficiency, which means that even the mildest infection can be life-threatening. Last summer, a simple cut on her toe sent her to the hospital because her body isn’t equipped to defend itself against bacteria and viruses. With Sainte-Justine behind her, Victoria has weathered every storm with flying colours.
Marie
At the bedside of youth
CHU Sainte-Justine, Université de Montréal
For the past three years, Marie has worked as a nurse in CHU Sainte-Justine’s intensive care unit, where she looks after children and youth in critical condition. She comforted Anne-Marie and her family when the young girl was hospitalized. Determined to make an even greater impact on families affected by illness, Marie has enrolled in medical school at the Université de Montréal.
SPARKING HOPE FOR 16 YEARS
Sainte-Justine Tree of Lights
Quebecers have been actively contributing to Sainte-Justine’s mission of excellence since 2008 by making thousands of lights twinkle on the Tree of Lights in exchange for a donation of $5 per bulb. The support of the community is crucial in helping the teams at Sainte-Justine take pediatric medicine to the next level and remain at the forefront of innovation for young patients and their families.
In the past 14 years, more than $13 million has been raised to continuously improve the care provided to children from across the province.
CAUSE
Growing Beyond our wildest dreams
Providing care in childhood has more impact to ensure better overall health overall than intervening at any other stage of life. More than ever, Growing Beyond for every child in a targeted way makes it possible to prevent and predict the onset of illness that could limit their immediate and future development. Acting early, often in the mother’s womb, means preventing the onset of more serious forms of disease. It has a transformative effect on the entire life trajectory of a child and his or her family.
There’s not a minute to lose to transform the life of every child in Québec. With its exceptional mobilizing force, the Sainte-Justine Circle supports the CHU Sainte-Justine Foundation and allows its university-affiliated hospital to keep up with the best in pediatrics.
Growing beyond with us means transforming lives, for life.
After all, children may represent a mere 20% of our population, but they’re 100% of our future.
